At the beginning of the 80s I became fully aware of a concept that had been just an intuition for a long time: the artistic language is too weak to have a positive impact on the growth of society.
Other languages penetrate the generations and forge them: television, the press and nowadays the internet. These are the means of communication that are powerful and arrogant enough to impact society either positively or negatively.
Feeling disillusioned and powerless I sought refuge in studying the masters of the past, almost looking for answers in their work. Besides, the 80s were characterized by “transavantgarde”, “the traitor ideology” and the “looking back attitude”.
I started from Caravaggio and “the Raft of the Medusa” by Théodore Géricault. Studying the latter, and a pictorial feature, I later developed a material and three-dimensional feature. These aspects shall influence all the following phases of my work.
